Lying is the New Normal

A very disturbing standard has weaved its way into the fabric of American culture. Lying is an acceptable way of sharing information! We have turned into a nation of liars and it’s contagious. If mom and dad lie then it's ok for the siblings to lie. If the boss lies to me then I'm required to pass that lie on to my colleagues. The news media is supposed to be fact finders without bias and yet they pander misinformation for political gain and network ratings. Social network platforms are the greatest source of delivering lies to one another. If you haven’t noticed, we are a society preoccupied with our delivery devices. The new normal of lying is despicable enough on its own but exposes a deeper more sinister condition. There are two fundamental camps that govern humanity. One is the truth-sayers, the other is the lairs. Well, what about little white lies aren't they harmless?  No lie is too small not to avoid. One lie always leads to more lies to cover the first lie. Jesus is every Christian’s example, he could have lied to save his life but chose not to answer his accusers. Instead, he finished his mission and saved the lives of all who accept the truth. “Even if everyone else is a liar, God will always do what he says. As the Scriptures say about him, “You will be proved right in what you say, and you will win when people accuse you.”(Ro.3:4)

A culture that accepts lies as normal without consequences, is symptomatic of how far we have fallen away from Jesus’ example. The war of good against evil marches on but the truth will always win in the end. If you are one that believes lying is acceptable then you are in the wrong camp. You are being lied to by the father of lies.  For you are the children of your father the devil and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning and a hater of truth—there is not an iota of truth in him. When he lies, it is perfectly normal; for he is the father of liars.”(John 8:44) Lying is a matter of choice, no one is compelled to lie. Simply avoid the urge to lie, embrace the truth and be a follower of Jesus’ example. Remember, integrity is the most respected attribute a person can have. “Lies last only a moment, but the truth lasts forever.” “God delights in those who keep their promises and abhors those who don’t.”(Prov. 12:19,22) For more about how to overcome lying read “Beam me up Commander,” it's free.
