Behold a Pale Horse

It is becoming evident that the side-effects of the COVID-19 virus could be as devastating as the disease. The final results of the plague have yet to be realized. One thing is for sure, the virus is about to expose a very serious hunger crisis on three very populated continents: Asia, Africa and the sub-continent of India. The head of the United Nations World Food Program warned Tuesday that the coronavirus outbreak threatens to exacerbate existing crises to create a "hunger pandemic.” We could be facing multiple famines of biblical proportions within a short few months," said David Beasley, Executive Director of the WFP. Beasley said that even before the outbreak began, the world was "facing the worst humanitarian crisis since World War II" this year due to many factors, including wars in Syria and Yemen, the crisis in South Sudan, and locust swarms across East Africa.  Coupled with the coronavirus outbreak, famine threatens about three dozen nations, he said. According to the 2020 Global Report on the Food Crises, 135 million people around the world were already threatened with starvation. Beasley said that figure could nearly double due to the impact of the pandemic. He said there was "a real danger that more people could potentially die from the economic impact of COVID-19 than from the virus itself."

With a population of just under 1.5 Billion people, India is home to 25% of the world's undernourished people. Food shortages caused by the pandemic could devastate an already starved India. Africa, the Middle East, and areas throughout Asia are in no better shape. The COVID-19 pandemic could trigger a chain of events that would cripple world economies, and cause heartache beyond our ability to fathom.  “ Behold a pale horse, and its rider’s name was Death. And there followed after him another horse whose rider’s name was Hell. They were given control of one-fourth of the earth, to kill with war and famine and disease and wild animals.”(Rev.6:8)

The pale horse of the apocalypse is not released until after the rapture of the church. The horseman are turned loose at the beginning of Jacobs' trouble. It is not an experience that any reasonable person wants to be a part of. The pandemic and its results could be a prelude to the coming events of that period. God has always provided warning before disaster strikes. “Then anyone who hears the warning but refuses to heed it—well, if he dies, the fault is his own.”(Ezek. 33:4) Whether COVID-19 is a warning of things to come or just another virus remains to be seen but the prudent response would be to keep a close eye on worldwide events surrounding the viral pandemic.
